The Great Elephant Tale

The film follows three elephant herds in three very different African environments; the lush abundance of the Okavango delta (Botswana), the wilds of the remote Lower Zambezi valley (Zambia) and the harsh terrain of the Hoanib Desert (Namibia). In each habitat we follow a different character. A mother guides her family to find food, water and shelter, a young calf navigates the dangers of her new environment and a bull pursues a breeding herd as he attempts to extend his bloodline. The three narratives intertwine as we compare and contrast the challenges faced by the same species in vastly different scenarios, while bitesize factual sequences are placed to give the viewer a deeper understanding of what makes elephants tick.

Woodpeckers: The Hole Story

There are over 240 species of woodpeckers. They live on every continent except Antarctica and Australia. Woodpeckers come in all shapes and sizes, each uniquely engineered for their particular lifestyles. Some are sap drinkers, others live exclusively in forests ravaged by fire. Others catch insects on the wing acting more like a swallow than a woodpecker. And still others drill deep into the bark of decaying trees using their spear like tongue to fish insects from deep in the cambium. WOODPECKERS: THE HOLE STORY pecks away at what makes woodpeckers so special. We will follow intimate stories of two very different families raising their young, explore woodpeckers’ unique evolutionary journey and the powerful role they play in every ecosystem they inhabit.

Samburu is home to the Royals - an elephant family struggling to survive in the face of a landscape turning to dust. In Laikipia, wild dog matriarch Phoenix introduces five new pups to the pack but faces competition from marauding hyenas, and in Naboisho first-time cheetah mother Kuleta struggles to keep her four cubs alive in a land full of dangerous predators.

In this second season of WILD DOGS, Julz is back to follow two wild dog packs and one lion pride, the first cameraman to follow and chart the conflicts and interactions between these two top predators in the Luangwa Valley. Just as action packed as last year Julz will be challenged by the landscape and environment as he endeavors to keep up with the wild dogs in Roxanne, his trusty Jeep. The immersive on the shoulder style keeps us close to the action as Julz fixes on the fly, camps in the wilderness, and does what he does best – captures stunning wildlife behaviour in an incredible landscape.

Rare footage captures them underwater, in flight, tending nests, fending off eagle attacks and engaging in fierce territorial battles with fellow loons. Over the course of a breeding season, we witness their daily efforts to raise their chicks from tiny fluff balls into full-sized young adults. Through our two loon families, we see the perils of loon survival up close. As the seasons shift from spring to summer to fall, and we come to understand the stakes, viewers will be rooting for the little chicks they’ve watched grow, hoping beyond hope that they develop into healthy young adults, strong enough to take flight and soar.
