Codename: The Hollywood Option was a secret mission to rescue US hostages held captive at the US embassy in Tehran in 1979. Considered by many as the most dangerous diplomatic operation in Canadian history, it inspired the Oscar® winning film Argo. This documentary examines the hard truths around the deaths, truths the northern city of Thunder Bay and the country of Canada, have long ignored: Racism kills, especially when it presents itself as indifference. SPIRIT TO SOAR is a closer look at what has happened in the wake of the inquest into the student’s deaths, of how families and communities have struggled to carry on while pursuing justice for their loved ones and equity for First Nations People, and, it looks at Talaga’s own journey of trying to make sense of her role here. This film is a story of the strength and bravery First Nations youth show every single day, when they walk out the front door and head to high school in a country that has tried to erase them. We are still here and thriving.

Forest School

Nature learning has been embedded in indigenous culture for thousands of years, and within the past few decades the philosophy has formalized in Scandinavian countries as "FOREST SCHOOL". This concept of alternative education is now flooding into North America and the rest of the world. Forest school is a form of early education delivered entirely outdoors – rain or shine or snow - in which students explore nature to learn personal, social and technical skills. By using twigs to write in the mud they draw their favorite animals, the trees become story-tellers as they imagine the great adventures they can have, and animals become teachers of empathy and kindness.

With the help of a charismatic new art school student, Dash, the team investigates what Harris’ painting could mean through different art forms, while forming bonds with their new campmates.
