Africa's Wild Year

AFRICA'S WILD YEAR is an epic, cinematic series set over the course of a single year in Africa. Each episode focuses on one of the four seasons; spring, summer, autumn and winter, and reveals how animals adapt to the changing conditions. Filmed in stunning detail, the life stories of our cast of creatures will captivate the audience whilst introducing them to some of Africa’s many hidden wonders. Animal sequences will stand alone in behaviour and drama but will be tied together by the seasonal conditions they all face, revealing the vast array of ways in which animals thrive on the continent.

Carpathian Predators

The Carpathian mountains stretch across seven European countries. Vast primeval forests, steep gorges and isolated peaks offer a vital refuge to some of the continent’s most charismatic creatures. This is a place where predators still roam wild and humans have adapted to coexist with these formidable animals.

The Big Dry

The Luangwa Valley in Zambia is one of Africa’s last great wildernesses. A rich mosaic of ebony forests and grassy plains, it’s home to a vast array of colourful species including carmine-bee-eaters, hyenas, lions, vultures, crocodiles and insects such as praying mantis. This series follows the challenges the valley’s wildlife must overcome during the long dry season as they await the life-giving rains.

Attack & Defend

Indisputable apex predators and unassuming-but-lethal prey wage war in nature’s daily battle royale for the right to live another day. Whether it's carnivorous cheetahs, polar bears and sharks or exploding blast ants, vomiting fulmar birds or slime-excreting hagfish, those who attack and those who defend have developed specialized skills in their ongoing struggle to survive. Witness the masters of predator-prey conflict as they showcase their intimidating and extraordinary tactics.

Osprey: Sea Raptor

On the east coast of North America an osprey soars over a tiny saltmarsh at the delta of the Connecticut River. He has just flown 6000 kilometres, to the place that’s imprinted on his memory since birth, the place where he will re-join his mate. As the reunited pair mates and broods their eggs, foxes, deer and scores of migrating shorebirds bring summer’s hustle and bustle back to the saltmarsh. Other osprey pairs see their eggs snatched by predators that prowl the night. But this osprey pair are battle tested. Over the course of one summer, they fend off enemies, catch hundreds of fish, and raise their tiny chicks into the next generation of sea raptors.
