Follow Levison Wood’s expedition as he walks the length of the River Nile from source to sea. His nine-month, seven million step journey takes him through jungles, savannah, deserts, cities and war zones in some of the continent’s most remote and spectacular locations. The film focuses on the struggle over ownership, history, and morality, centered around failed efforts in Düsseldorf to honor German-Jewish art dealer Max Stern. Stern, who escaped the war, became Canada’s most successful art dealer. Through exclusive interviews and rare archival footage, THE SPOILS uncovers the tragic, ironic, and often contentious journey of reclaiming stolen cultural treasures.

Britain's foremost amateur WW2 detectorist and a war history buff team up to bring forgotten stories of WW2 back to life by unearthing relics from former military activity sites once in danger of being lost forever. The duo has made it their mission to unearth these artifacts, preserve their history, and bring these forgotten stories back to life. Using state-of-the-art geotechnology, archival documents, and period-accurate maps, the team races against time to find the burial location and perform extensive digs to excavate the artifacts before they are destroyed by urban progress or corroded by the very soil they are encased in.
