Borneo Wildlife Rescue

Deep in Borneo’s jungles lies a colorful cast of characters who have banded together at the front line of wildlife conservation. Comprised of vets and rangers, this elite team operates under the heading of Sabah’s Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU). Their primary mission is to manage the increasing human-animal conflict and protect Borneo’s unique and vulnerable species against the steady creep of agriculture and human development.

New Kids In The Wild

Each episode of New Kids in the Wild features a baby animal, showcasing their amazing character and the difficult challenges they face growing up wild in their rich and unique habitat. In Brazil, we meet Chico the cheeky baby Capuchin, then across the pond in Africa we meet Usana the fearless Cheetah cub, Lyca the curious Painted Wolf pup and Chinga the fierce lion cub. Finally, we meet Ravi the brave baby Lion-tailed macaque as he explores India’s Western Ghats. Each infant has a unique and special story, which highlights their individual personalities.

Here, some of the hardiest and most bizarre organisms on the planet have adapted to survive a daily cataclysmic cycle that few creatures can withstand. The result is a specialized and critical habitat whose importance reaches far beyond its borders. Yet this extraordinary world between worlds is surprisingly fragile. Altering the delicate balance of water and temperature could be enough to disrupt and even destroy life in the intertidal zone and affect the health of the ecosystems it supports.

Valley of Flood and Fire

The seasonal changes of the Luangwa Valley are extraordinarily intense. Heavy rains transform the Luangwa River from a shallow channel into a majestic waterway where grass grows tall and streams fill with an abundant selection of creatures, providing plentiful food for many grazing mouths. It is a wetland paradise. But it is short lived. A relentless and crippling drought follows and lasts for a majority of the year; weakening all life, save for the predators who take advantage of this widespread fall.
