From busy cities to rural communities, 24,000 trains cross Britain every day, traveling some 10,000 miles. The rail network is continually growing as new track is laid and old sections of the line are brought back to life. Britain is also home to over a hundred heritage railways that welcome millions of visitors each year, to celebrate a bygone era of steam. The chance to ride on a steam train – to experience the sights, the sounds and the smells – is something that still resonates deep within us. We meet the railway workers, volunteers and travellers who share their experiences of Britain’s most scenic railways with both warmth and humour.

Walking The Americas With Levison Wood

British explorer Levison Wood takes on a new expedition to walk the length of Central America from Mexico to Colombia. His 4 million step, 1800-mile journey sees him walk for four months across eight countries and two continents, visiting some of the most fascinating and diverse regions on earth, before attempting to walk through the legendary Darien Gap – 60 miles of near impenetrable jungle that’s defeated explorers over the centuries - to reach Colombia in South America.

Wild France With Ray Mears

Ray Mears explores the geography, flora and fauna of six dramatic French landscapes. The high mountain ranges of the Alps, the coastal waters of the Brittany, the chestnut forests of the Cevnnes, the caves and gorges of the Ardeche, the wet-lands of Camargue and the rolling lavender plains of Provence’s unique maquis landscape. Across the series Ray explores the dramatic physical geography of each region; its topography, its climate and its extreme weather conditions. He tracks down and identifies the key wildlife species that live there and how they have adapted. He introduces us to animals with an ancient history with the land such as wolves and vultures as well as more unexpected and exotic wildlife such as pink flamingos and dolphins.

These modern day explorers and long-term travellers have all faced challenges and have fascinating stories to tell. This series is about the expats - the true heroes of the show - and they are just a sampling of the ever-increasing number of people who choose to pick up their entire lives and move abroad. World’s Most Beautiful Railway

This series travels the length and breadth of Scotland’s dramatic landscapes to meet the train crews, the engineers and the volunteers who keep the railways running. We transport viewers back in time as we ride the vintage steam trains. We take to the air to trace the route taken by Queen Victoria and we receive a Royal welcome as we visit a newly refurbished station. We ride the ‘Hogwarts Express’ at it travels across the iconic Glenfinnan viaduct and we meet the steam train crew who delight the thousands of tourists each year who come to follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter, and follow engineers on the Forth Bridge as they carry out essential checks while dangling on ropes underneath one of the world’s most famous Unesco Heritage Sites. Filmed on location from the stunning wilderness of the moors, forests and fields of Scotland we see the breath-taking views that delight Scotland’s rail passengers from their train window.
