At the start of every winter, the coast of South Africa sees billions of little fish converge in the biggest biomass migration on the planet. It’s the annual sardine run – a literal force of nature that feeds an entire coastline. The sardines ride a cold current through a gauntlet of predators, against all odds of survival - but the purpose of the journey remains a mystery. They race past a hungry seal colony, endure an aerial assault by gannets and face hungry sharks. Loons: A Cry From The Mist

LOONS: A CRY FROM THE MIST deploys a team of world-renowned cinematographers to reveal the secret lives of loons. Rare footage captures them underwater, in flight, tending nests, fending off eagle attacks and engaging in fierce territorial battles with fellow loons. Over the course of a breeding season, we witness their daily efforts to raise their chicks from tiny fluff balls into full-sized young adults. Through our two loon families, we see the perils of loon survival up close. As the seasons shift from spring to summer to fall, and we come to understand the stakes, viewers will be rooting for the little chicks they’ve watched grow, hoping beyond hope that they develop into healthy young adults, strong enough to take flight and soar.

On the shores of Botswana’s Gomoti River, Africa’s three Big Cats have made themselves at home. This summer, as some embark on a journey to parenthood; others are nearing its end. An aging lion has his hands full with new cubs, and rivals that could kill them; a cheetah mother is racing to get her five cubs to independence, while a male leopard embarks on a bumpy journey to fatherhood. Winter floods bring opportunity, and tragedy to the lions, and challenge the young cheetahs adjusting to life without their mother. In the woodlands nearby, a leopard mother battles to protect her cubs against intruders. To succeed, all of these cats must use their unique skills to avoid lethal encounters, outsmart rivals, and thrive in a crowded neighbourhood.
