Woodpeckers: The Hole Story

There are over 240 species of woodpeckers. They live on every continent except Antarctica and Australia. Woodpeckers come in all shapes and sizes, each uniquely engineered for their particular lifestyles. Some are sap drinkers, others live exclusively in forests ravaged by fire. Others catch insects on the wing acting more like a swallow than a woodpecker. And still others drill deep into the bark of decaying trees using their spear like tongue to fish insects from deep in the cambium. For nearly two decades, Grizzly 399 has been a fixture in Grand Teton National Park. Known only by her research number, 399 has become the world's most famous — and most photographed — grizzly in the world. The film follows 399 as she struggles to raise her cubs in the face of human encroachment, a rapidly changing climate, and threat of losing her protection under the Endangered Species Act. The film explores 399’s life through those closest to her, including world-renowned nature photographer Thomas Mangelsen, activist Jane Goodall, grizzly biologist Dr. Chris Servheen, NPS park rangers, cattle ranchers, and even the man who survived an attack by 399 and her cubs. 399: QUEEN OF THE TETONS uses beautiful wildlife footage, a 15 year achive of photographs, viral video and original footage to examine an urgent and contentious debate over the future of an iconic American species through the life of one exceptional mama bear.

Wild Peru: Andes Battleground

There are three Perus: its great rainforest, the Andes foothills and the pacific coastal deserts. Across two hours, we explore all these diverse habitats, from the rainforest dwellers like the giant otter, the sloth and the colorful macaws, to its extreme coastal desert animals where penguins and cormorants live cheek by jowl with sea lions and fur seals, whilst in the mountain foothills are fog fed pastures, where bears, guanacos, tapirs and pumas fight it out for survival.

Red Crabs Crazy Ants

Christmas Island is home to the yearly mass migration of red crabs. Each year many of the crabs fall victim to the alien yellow crazy ants. These ants release formic acid as they crawl over and around the crabs which, with no defence against the ferocity of the onslaught, become stressed and generally die within a few hours.

Baboons: Rules Of The Troop

Life on Earth is complex and diverse. Through the course of evolution, species have emerged that are adapted to constantly changing environments. There are few more resilient than the baboon. Over the course of the film we follow 4 families – the Beach, Mountain, River and Desert Troops and their dramatic stories of survival on the African continent. From the highlands of Ethiopia, down rivers in Botswana, through deserts to the southernmost beaches of Africa, the film beautifully depicts the adaptations baboons have made to survive under a myriad of harsh conditions.
